Royal Schiphol Group native returns to oversee North America’s first privately operated air terminal
Queens, New York – April 30, 2018 – Roel Huinink, an international transportation executive with two decades of leadership in business development, commercial management and marketing consulting, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JFKIAT – the company which manages Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport – one of the most active air terminals in the United States with more than 21 million annual travelers. JFKIAT is a U.S. affiliate of Royal Schiphol Group, operator of world-renowned Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Mr. Huinink will replace Gert-Jan de Graaff, who has served as President and CEO since 2014, set to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) in Australia. Mr. Huinink will start at JFKIAT on August 1, 2018. Mr. Huinink will oversee day-to-day operations at Terminal 4.
“Throughout my career, I’ve gained invaluable experiences across several areas of airport management,” said Mr. Huinink. “Having the opportunity to channel this expertise – in conjunction with my passion for people management and a results-driven leadership approach – for this new role at the New York-area’s most active air terminals is a tremendous honor.”
Currently, Mr. Huinink serves as Program Director at The Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB, a Netherlands-based organization offering a wide range of services in the areas of recreation, tourism and mobility while actively lobbying in the fields of driving, mobility, travel and recreation.
After being a member of the Management Board between 2014 and 2017, Mr. Huinink currently sits on the advisory board of Norwegian-based Airport Retail Group. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Rygge Sivile Lufthavn A/S – the operator of Moss Airport in Rygge, Norway.
Mr. Huinink has a 15-year history with Royal Schiphol Group, where he held various management positions from 1999 to 2014, including as Managing Director of Arlanda Schiphol Development Company, a retail management enterprise which seeks to boost non-aviation revenue and consumer satisfaction at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Goteborg Landvetter Airport in Sweden, and as Director of Parking & Mobility Services at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in The Netherlands.
“I am both eager and proud to return to the Royal Schiphol Group family and assume the role of JFKIAT’s CEO. I look forward to embarking on this next phase of my career at Terminal 4,” added Huinink.
Mr. Huinink holds a MS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Transportation and Offshore Technology from the renowned Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands.
