EV chargers mark ATL’s latest push to become one of the greenest airports in the world
ATLANTA – In an ongoing effort to become one of the greenest airports in the world, Mayor Kasim Reed and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) leaders today officially unveiled 102 electric vehicle charging stations at the Airport. Mayor Reed, who directed the Airport to install at least 100 EV charging stations by the end of 2016, joined Airport representatives, sustainability leaders and Georgia Power executives at the unveiling.
“I am proud to unveil more than 100 new charging stations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport that will accommodate travelers and Airport employees who drive electric vehicles,” said Mayor Reed. “This is a historic step for the world’s busiest and most efficient passenger airport and propels the City of Atlanta closer to its goal to reduce vehicle emissions by 20 percent by the year 2020. I would like to thank Clean Cities-Georgia, Georgia Power and the Georgia Public Service Commission for helping to make this happen.”
“Today's announcement underscores our unwavering commitment to increasing our sustainability efforts,” said Airport General Manager Roosevelt Council, Jr. “These efforts will continue across the entire Airport campus and will boost our goal to be not only the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, but also one of the most sustainable.”
The EV charging stations are broken down into Level 1 and Level 2 chargers located across the ATL campus parking areas. Level 1 chargers are ideal for longer-term charges, while Level 2 chargers provide a full charge in less time.
Twenty-two chargers (16 Level 1, six Level 2) are located at the Domestic Terminal South Daily deck on the ground floor; 24 chargers (16 Level 1 and eight Level 2) are located on the North Daily deck on the ground floor; 16 chargers (10 Level 1, six Level 2) are in the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal Hourly deck on the second floor; 30 chargers (all Level 1) are on the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal Park-Ride lot; two chargers (Level 2) are in the South Department of Aviation employee parking lot; four chargers (two Level 1 and two Level 2) are in the Technical Support Campus parking lot; and four (two Level 1 and two Level 2) are located at the Airport’s Maintenance Building Number 1.
Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
