ATLANTA — (12.20.17) – Pond is pleased to announce and welcome John Rettig as its new
Corrosion Program Manager, and as its first employee hired to expand its corrosion control
contracts, business development and construction footprint on the west coast.
Based out of San Diego, Calif., and concurrently spending time at Pond’s Atlanta headquarters,
Rettig brings an intensive and extensive background working as a construction and project
management expert on large scale multi-location, multi-award corrosion protection contracts
through the Department of Defense (DoD). His experience has taken him from military installations
across the continental United States to remote project locations around the world, including the
Europe, Asia and the South Pacific.
Rettig stated: “One of my goals is to assist our Pond team in making our contracts run as smooth as
possible not just for Pond, but for our military counterparts as well. It is very important to me that
Pond is successful and in doing so providing the best possible service for the DoD.”
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State
University, Rettig moved his way up from project engineer, to project manager, then operations
manager of the DoD contracts and projects for a large construction and engineering firm.
Rettig, a NACE-certified International Cathodic Protection Technologist, has operational and
engineering management experience, working with the construction and operations sides, as well
as business development on both a local and national level. Rettig has a thorough background with
managing teams of project managers and a deep understanding of DoD contracts and procedures.
It’s the duality of his expertise at bridging the gap between operations, business development and
engineering that make him the obvious choice to claim the new frontier for Pond on the west
coast and all other points in between.
“California is essentially a place where there is a lot of opportunity to really expand,” explained
Rettig. “It’s the fifth largest economy in the world, by itself, and Pond hasn’t had a dedicated
footprint there. It’s very exciting from a business development stance to get onboard and help grow
that.”
Bryan Evans, Principal and Vice President of Corrosion & Integrity Management at Pond said,
“Rettig is setting Pond’s mark on the west coast, and opening opportunities to areas we have not
historically worked, but, more importantly, he’s also managing our Corrosion Program on the west
coast, and into Hawaii, Guam and Japan.”
The excitement of breaking into new business development deals and projects throughout such a
currently untapped territory for Pond was a big plus for Rettig’s acceptance of the offer, but it was a
more personal one that convinced him that Pond was home for him.
“The sense I got from Pond was they operate at a high level like most large businesses do, but they
have maintained the positive culture and common business sense of a small business. Pond truly
cares about its employees and that largely played into my decision to join the team.”
2022 Charlotte Douglas International Airport Report of Achievement
Giving back to the community is central to what Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its operator, the City of Charlotte Aviation Department, is about, and last year was no different.
Throughout 2022, while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued our efforts to have a positive impact on the Charlotte community. Of particular note, we spent the year sharing stories of how Connections Don't Just Happen at the Terminal - from creating homeownership and employment opportunities to supporting economic growth through small-business development and offering outreach programs to help residents understand the Airport better.
This whitepaper highlights the construction projects, initiatives, programs and events that validate Charlotte Douglas as a premier airport.
