ORLANDO, FL. — With passenger traffic at an all-time high, Orlando International Airport (MCO) has taken several steps to ensure travelers continue to receive the highest level of customer service. As the busy summer travel season approaches, these innovations will play an important role in expediting travel and providing important information.
Redesigned Website
Fresh and fully responsive describe the revamped Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) website.
The redesign increases user-friendliness and provides customers with a visually appealing and interactive information portal.
The greatest change is a fully responsive design, so the entire site automatically reconfigures to fit whatever device is being used to view it, from mobile phone to desktop.
Navigation has also been improved with new, clearer wayfinding maps and slideshows showing the arrivals and departures processes.
The Shops & Restaurants page now features a filter so the user can view everything, drill down to view just those concessions in a particular area of the airport or search for a particular name or other keyword.
The site is currently available in English, but will soon be translated into Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.
Radio MCO
The ability to reach out to the millions of travelers who pass through Orlando International Airport each year has been elevated to a new level.
FlyMCO 105.1HD2 has been created to use the scope and immediacy of mass media to deliver airport information, travel updates, community news and entertainment.
This CBS-affiliated, digital radio station debuts May 18, 2016 and will broadcast around-the-clock, seven days a week. FlyMCO 105.1HD2 is available for free on HD radios throughout 11 counties in Central Florida and can be streamed nationwide through Orlando International Airport’s website, mobile app and the radio.com app.
Mobile Passport Control App
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) expanded Mobile Passport Control (MPC) to Orlando International Airport to make international arrivals more traveler-friendly. The MPC will enable eligible travelers to submit their passport information and customs declaration form to CBP via smartphone or tablet app prior to arrival. MPC is the first authorized app to offer this option.
"Orlando International Airport is committed to enhancing the international customer arrival experience," says Phil Brown, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Executive Director. "The introduction of innovative technology to further expedite international processing, while not compromising security, is good for our passengers and our community."
The free app does not require pre-approval and does not collect any new information from travelers. Android and iPhone users can download the MPC app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Amped up App
Since its release, the Orlando International Airport app has been downloaded by thousands of iPhone and Android users to enhance their MCO travel experience. The app was developed to provide flight information and ease airport wayfinding through the use of 1,000 wireless beacons. Orlando International became the first U.S. airport to employ beacon technology to facilitate Blue Dot real-time navigation throughout the entire airport complex.
Recent innovations have further enabled the airport app to assist customers along their airport journey. New features include:
• Access to MCO’s new HD radio station
• Beacons installed on the 1st level outdoor curbsides to enhance the blue dot and navigation experience
• Updates on the latest restaurants and shops
Greater social media interaction
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority has increased its interaction with the Central Florida community and the millions of travelers who visit Orlando International Airport.
Through platforms like Facebook, Twitter and the airport’s website www.orlandoairports.net, comments and questions are actively monitored so that two-way communication can be initiated when the situation warrants.
This enhanced emphasis on responding directly to customers and providing timely and relevant content furthers the Aviation Authority’s goal of delighting and valuing each guest with the finest airport experience in the world.
Basic MCO information: With more than 40 million annual passengers, MCO is the second busiest airport in Florida and 14th busiest in the U.S. The airport has 18,000 employees and generates $31 billion in direct and indirect revenue for the regional economy. Orlando International Airport strives to value and delight its customers through an airport-wide focus and design concept known as The Orlando Experience®.
Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
