“Safety training is now available to operators of small aerial drones.”
San Antonio, TX-Reports of unmanned aerial vehicles near airports and public gatherings raise concerns for public safety. “Safe and responsible sharing of the skies is what our training is all about,” stated Dave Hook, President of Planehook Aviation Services, LLC. “There’s a misunderstanding that people flying drones are operating in the Wild West. Nothing could be further from the truth. Like every other flying activity here in the United States, there are rules and regulations that apply,” he went on to say.
Online training provider Opango, Incorporated teams with Planehook to make available small UAV safety courses online. Opango is well known in aviation circles as a long‐time provider of online aviation training. “Dave Hook is a thirty‐four year veteran flight instructor and a camera drone owner. Teaching others how to fly responsibly is something he knows how to do well. Opango is pleased to partner with Planehook in helping to improve the safety of our skies,” states Opango CEO Tom Allen.
Aeronautical Decision Making for sUAS Operators is the first of the online aerial drone safety courses available on Opango. The course teaches the same kind of systematic, risk‐based approach to making good aeronautical decisions that pilots of manned aircraft learn. “The goal is to encourage responsible UAV owners and flyers to use similar flying safety and risk analysis thought processes already being used by manned aviation,” offered Planehook’s president. “The U.S. National Airspace must be shared safely.”

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
This white paper discusses the hardware deployed, the test results and the annualized expectations for ROI.
