Heinemann’s $20,000 Gift to the AMAC Foundation Is One of the Largest In the Foundation’s History
WASHINGTON, DC (October 16, 2019) – Heinemann Americas, the Florida-based subsidiary of international duty free company Gebr. Heinemann, announced today that it has established a $20,000 aviation scholarship in partnership with the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) Foundation. Made possible through one of the largest corporate gifts in the AMAC Foundation’s history, the scholarship will cover educational and related costs for three women and/or minority students who wish to enter the field of aviation.
“When we learned about the important work AMAC does to ensure women and minorities have access to contracting opportunities within the aviation industry, we knew we had to support their mission,” said Nadine Heubel, CEO of Heinemann Americas. “As an international company, we know the importance of diversity and hope our partnership with the Foundation will inspire others to work towards providing opportunities for everyone in our industry.”
Applications are open to students who express a desire to work in aviation, are involved in their communities, and have an interest in expanding opportunities for minorities in the field.
“The AMAC Foundation Board of Directors is working diligently to increase our support for the next generation of Aviation professionals thanks to incredible partners like Heinemann Americas, an important player in the U.S. duty free cruise retail market,” said Heather Barry, AMAC Foundation Board Chair. “Heinemann’s Scholarship will help the AMAC Foundation Board of Directors move toward a sustainable funding platform. I’m hopeful that other companies and organizations will follow Heinemann’s lead.”
Since its inception, AMAC has been at the forefront of nearly every national policy initiative impacting the participation of disadvantaged businesses in airport contracting. AMAC also works consistently with Congress, the Federal Government, aviation trade associations and others as a resource for information, education and guidance on business and employment matters.
AMAC and its affiliates represent thousands of members that include airport operators, government officials, corporations, and M/W/DBE/ACDBE entrepreneurs. No organization practices what it preaches better than AMAC, bringing a diverse multi-dimensional group together for their mutual success. Our thirty-five-year legacy includes high-level, aviation community experience from dedicated professionals in the industry, who volunteer their time to serve as Board and committee members.
The 2020 AMAC Foundation scholarship application is open now until January 17, 2020. Interested scholarship applicants should apply by visiting www.amac-org.com/foundation. Scholarship recipients will be announced in Spring 2020.
2022 Charlotte Douglas International Airport Report of Achievement
Giving back to the community is central to what Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its operator, the City of Charlotte Aviation Department, is about, and last year was no different.
Throughout 2022, while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued our efforts to have a positive impact on the Charlotte community. Of particular note, we spent the year sharing stories of how Connections Don't Just Happen at the Terminal - from creating homeownership and employment opportunities to supporting economic growth through small-business development and offering outreach programs to help residents understand the Airport better.
This whitepaper highlights the construction projects, initiatives, programs and events that validate Charlotte Douglas as a premier airport.
