CHICAGO, August 16, 2017 - American Airlines has announced it will begin nonstop daily service between Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) starting May 4, 2018.
"This is great news for O'Hare travelers and the City of Chicago," said Ginger S. Evans, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA). "I want to thank American Airlines for continuing to add service from O'Hare to exciting destinations around the world, which creates new business and tourism opportunities for Chicago. This new service is estimated to generate approximately $50 million in annual economic activity for the region."
The Chicago-Venice service will be daily with flights departing ORD at 7 p.m. and arriving in VCE at 11 a.m. (next day). Flights from VCE will depart at 2:50 p.m. and arrive at ORD at 6:15 p.m. Flights will be operated on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The seasonal service will operate until October 27, 2018.
With the addition of American's new route to Venice, Italy, service continues to grow at Chicago's airports, with five new international destinations already started in 2017, and four new international destinations set to begin in 2018.
O' Hare is ranked number one for connectivity among the world's mega hubs for the highest ratio of possible scheduled connections to number of destinations served. To maintain its status as an easily accessible and viable destination for international travelers, the City is working to grow international capacity at O'Hare. These investments are a part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's O'Hare 21 vision-a multi-billion capital program that will strengthen one of Chicago's biggest economic drivers by adding a new global terminal, modernizing existing terminals, creating new gates, and making other critical improvements that will better connect travelers and Chicago to other parts of the world.
