New non-stop service makes travel between Southern California and the Greater Phoenix area easier than ever
BURBANK, Calif., and PHOENIX, May 3, 2021 — America’s first new mainline airline in nearly 15 years — Avelo Airlines — takes off for its first flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA), commencing service between Southern California and the Greater Phoenix-Mesa area.
Avelo flight XP 109 departs BUR at 7:00 a.m. with a scheduled arrival into AZA at 8:25 a.m. The inaugural flight from AZA to BUR departs today at 10:25 a.m. local time, with a 12:00 p.m. scheduled arrival at BUR.
"Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is a stress-free airport alternative, and we are excited to bring more options and lower fares to this year-round desert oasis," said Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy. "Travelers leaving from and arriving at Phoenix-Mesa will be closer to many area attractions, like the natural Sonoran Desert beauty of Tonto National Forest, without the hassle of navigating airport traffic, rail connections, rental car shuttles, or searching for rideshares.”
With everyday low fares starting at $19, Avelo’s daily service between BUR and AZA makes it easier than ever to enjoy some of the most popular destinations in California and Arizona. The route will be served by 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft – one of the most fuel-efficient commercial aircraft in the world – providing Customers with a large, comfortable cabin with more room, more seats and more seating options than the regional aircraft typically serving the airports in Avelo’s network.
“Today’s inaugural flight by Avelo Airlines is exciting news for both greater Phoenix and Los Angeles area air travelers”, stated Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority CEO J. Brian O’Neill, A.A.E. “This new service provides high quality, ultra-low-fare connectivity between two major markets in the west. I am confident that Avelo will be very successful at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.”
Whether Customers are departing or arriving, BUR – named the 2019 “Best U.S. Airport” by Fodor’s Travel – offers a refreshingly hassle-free experience, including seamless curbside pickup and drop-off, smaller crowds, shorter walking distances from curb to gate, unrivaled speed for plane-to-carousel bag delivery, and shorter TSA security lines.
“For those considering LA or So Cal for their next getaway, BUR is the ultra-convenient, stress-free gateway to Greater LA. No airport is closer to downtown LA, Hollywood, Pasadena and other attractions throughout Southern California,” said Levy.
Avelo Airlines flight XP 109 departs BUR daily at 7:00 a.m. arriving in AZA at 8:25 a.m. local time; flight XP 110 departs AZA at 9:05 a.m., arriving in BUR at 10:40 a.m.

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
