FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – (Kalamazoo, Michigan) –
The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport continues the road to recovery amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The number of passengers in July 2020 jumped 43% from June 2020. However, the number is still 77.8% less than July 2019 passenger numbers. “The growth is a result of American and Delta increasing the number of flights to AZO and SW Michigan’s need and desire to travel via air. Kalamazoo is tracking better than the national average and the airlines are returning flights to those markets that are responding to increased service. The quicker SW Michigan travelers return to AZO, the faster airlines will increase flights” said Airport Director, Craig Williams.
Individually, both American and Delta saw their numbers increase dramatically as a result of the increased capacity. United’s numbers for July were down and reflect their presence for only the first week before their three-month hiatus. United plans to return on October 1st.
