Barbara Michael, AICP, has joined Mead & Hunt as a Senior Airport Planner and Senior Technical Advisor. Barbara’s nearly 50 years of experience will be a great addition to Mead & Hunt’s team of aviation planners. Barbara will mainly focus on projects that include airport facilities planning and environmental planning.
Barbara previously led the national aviation planning practice for another consulting firm and managed dozens of airport planning projects at airports such as Bradley International, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall, Cleveland-Hopkins International, Dallas Love Field, Jacksonville International, General Mitchell International, Palm Beach International, Louisville International and Stewart International. One of her final projects before retiring was in Vietnam where she managed a project funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.
In addition to managing projects, Barbara also served as principal-in-charge and senior advisor for projects at major airports throughout the U.S. For example, she was the principal-in-charge for the North Carolina Airports System Plan and senior technical advisor for the Cleveland Part 150 study. She is a former Federal Aviation Administration environmental planner, an expert in federal land releases and has extensive experience in community outreach.
Though Barbara has experience with airports of all sizes, she has particularly strong experience with medium- and large-hub airports, adding strength to Mead & Hunt’s large-hub resume. In her new position, Barbara will help support Mead & Hunt’s aviation planning and environmental group as the company continues to provide airport consulting services for some of the most complex airports in the U.S.
“Barbara has a lot of knowledge to share and will mentor both our younger staff as well as our emerging workforce of talented airport planners, environmental specialists and project managers to help them grow and develop,” said Ron Engel, Group Leader of Aviation Services.
Beyond aviation, Barbara enjoys travel, opera, cooking, reading, yoga, playing bridge and baking bread. She was a Peace Corps volunteer and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Kentuckians for Better Transportation.
Mead & Hunt is thrilled to have Barbara join the team. Please help us in welcoming Barbara Michael to the Mead & Hunt family.
2022 Charlotte Douglas International Airport Report of Achievement
Giving back to the community is central to what Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its operator, the City of Charlotte Aviation Department, is about, and last year was no different.
Throughout 2022, while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued our efforts to have a positive impact on the Charlotte community. Of particular note, we spent the year sharing stories of how Connections Don't Just Happen at the Terminal - from creating homeownership and employment opportunities to supporting economic growth through small-business development and offering outreach programs to help residents understand the Airport better.
This whitepaper highlights the construction projects, initiatives, programs and events that validate Charlotte Douglas as a premier airport.
