Erlanger, Ky. (July 16, 2018) ― The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) partnered with Losant, a local enterprise IoT platform, to build an innovative solution to continue to enhance and streamline the travel experience. Large-screen monitors are now placed above the passenger train doors displaying real-time data and wayfinding information on where the train is located and which direction it is going.
Similar to other recent technology launches, CVG identified the opportunity to visually communicate where and how long wait times were for the passenger train so travelers can make an educated decision on whether to walk to the next Concourse or ride either of the two operating trains, thereby maximizing their time-sensitive experience within the airport.
CVG and Losant met through Cintrifuse and started with a concept of how Losant could leverage IoT. Via internet computing devices embedded on inanimate objects (trains and each train tunnel path), sensor technology sends and receives “heartbeat” information as to the status and whereabouts of each train. In turn, single data points are translated into visual, directional messaging for passengers.
Additionally, through operational dashboard capabilities, airport staff now have the ability to see exactly where the trains are at all times, when trains are in scheduled or unscheduled maintenance mode, and any critical functions such as doors being held open causing a delay.
“Our vision at CVG is to provide an unforgettably positive experience for all of our travelers, and we know that leaning in to new technology and partnering with companies like Losant to develop innovative solutions will help us deliver on that vision,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG.
“CVG had a clear vision, and our team at Losant was able to define and build the IoT solution to achieve the objective,” said Charlie Key, chief executive officer, Losant. “Every enterprise could enhance their brand with IoT and airports are on the front lines of trying to exceed the smart consumer's expectations. IoT allows you to understand your data to facilitate that goal.”
CVG and Losant are already identifying future opportunities to track big data for seamless travel and workplace efficiencies.
2022 Charlotte Douglas International Airport Report of Achievement
Giving back to the community is central to what Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its operator, the City of Charlotte Aviation Department, is about, and last year was no different.
Throughout 2022, while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued our efforts to have a positive impact on the Charlotte community. Of particular note, we spent the year sharing stories of how Connections Don't Just Happen at the Terminal - from creating homeownership and employment opportunities to supporting economic growth through small-business development and offering outreach programs to help residents understand the Airport better.
This whitepaper highlights the construction projects, initiatives, programs and events that validate Charlotte Douglas as a premier airport.
