Fort McMurray, AB – May 5, 2016 – The Fort McMurray Airport Authority continues to operate as key transportation infrastructure for emergency operations and the transportation of food and supplies for first responders and evacuees. Commercial air traffic is suspended until further notice and the public is asked to contact their airline for the latest updates regarding flights. Information and updates can also be found on the YMM Airport, Air Canada, and WestJet social media feeds.
The following provides detail on the status of the Fort McMurray International Airport and its campus as of 1600 on Thursday May 5, 2016.
Operations are being managed very well by a small staff onsite lead by Bill Werny, VP Operations. He is working closely with the Emergency Operations Centre for the Region. A satellite administration operations centre has been set up in Edmonton, in support of airport operations.
