Mesa, Arizona — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport) welcomed a record number of commercial passengers during October 2019, marking the eighteenth consecutive month of record activity for the growing greater Phoenix airport. Gateway Airport welcomed 134,884 total passengers during the month, an 11% increase over last October.
“Each month more and more passengers are choosing the convenience and affordability of Gateway Airport for their travel needs,” said Lt. Governor Robert Stone, Chairman of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. “Arizona residents and sun-seeking visitors know they’ll have a Just Plane Easy experience when they choose Gateway Airport.”
The Airport’s increasing popularity is attributed to several important factors including: increased awareness about the airport; the launch of several new nonstop destinations by Allegiant; and the early return of low-cost Canadian airlines WestJet and Swoop for another winter season. Gateway Airport now offers nonstop jet service to nearly 50 domestic and international destinations.
To support the increasing passenger activity, the Airport is adding several new food and beverage concessions and additional retail locations in advance of the busy winter/spring travel season. An O.H.S.O. Brewery with an indoor-outdoor patio seating will open in early 2020, along with a Starbucks, Panara Bread, Macayo’s Mexican Food, and Infusion Coffee & Tea.
Airport Director J. Brian O’Neill A.A.E. added, “the Airport is making a significant investment to develop and improve airport facilities and airfield infrastructure. Our goal is to provide all customers with a first-class travel experience.”
