ORLANDO, FL. – As the Central Florida tourism industry continues to rebound, including the reopening of Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando, Orlando International Airport welcomes back those pillars of the local economy and the flying public.
Welcome back signage throughout the terminal joins messaging that encourages social distancing and critical health protocols focused on passenger safety and comfort. These signs are among the visible changes made at Orlando International, including acrylic shields at ticket counters and at security screening checkpoints.
Following the first full weekend of two major tourist attractions open to the public, passenger traffic at Orlando International continues to rebound. A projected 14,693 passengers were scheduled to depart today. Compared to original projections, which indicated there would have been 68,730 departing passengers today, passenger traffic is down approximately 78 percent.
At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, passenger traffic was down approximately 97 percent. On Friday, Spirit Airlines announced strong plans to bring back robust air service to Orlando International this month and next. Other airlines have also recently announced increased air service. Today, there are 358 flights scheduled.
