Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today the unveiling of the SYR Community Art Program. Consisting of over 120 paintings from 11 community organizations, the artwork will be displayed throughout Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).
Earlier this fall, the SRAA reached out to local high school art departments, senior living facilities, organizations that provide support to families and individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and other local organizations that work with members of our community to gauge interest in the program.
Organizations who agreed to participate were delivered blank canvases for distribution to individuals they serve. Individuals used paint, crayons, and more to create their masterpieces.
“During the COVID-19 global pandemic, many members of our community feel isolated from the rest of the world,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “We see this as a great opportunity for individuals of all abilities to express themselves artistically, while also providing a sense of place for travelers passing through SYR.”
Due to the high rate of participation, multiple locations were chosen throughout the airport to display the artwork – both pre-security checkpoint and post-security checkpoint.
The SYR Community Art Program is just one component of a larger initiative to bring art into the airport. For example, the recently announced partnership with Piano and Organ Center has brought live music back into the airport’s grand hall for the holiday season – and beyond.

2022 Charlotte Douglas International Airport Report of Achievement
Giving back to the community is central to what Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its operator, the City of Charlotte Aviation Department, is about, and last year was no different.
Throughout 2022, while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued our efforts to have a positive impact on the Charlotte community. Of particular note, we spent the year sharing stories of how Connections Don't Just Happen at the Terminal - from creating homeownership and employment opportunities to supporting economic growth through small-business development and offering outreach programs to help residents understand the Airport better.
This whitepaper highlights the construction projects, initiatives, programs and events that validate Charlotte Douglas as a premier airport.
