Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that passenger traffic at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) was up 11.5% in 2019, making it the busiest year in three decades. This is the second year in a row that the airport has seen a double-digit traffic increase.
SYR had 2,583,193 passengers travel through the airport last year, which marks the busiest year since 1990, when the airport had 2,638,036 total passengers.
A variety of factors have contributed to this vigorous growth, as described by SYR Executive Director Jason Terreri. “Our airline partners have added more flights – such as new daily, nonstop service on United to Denver and Allegiant’s new year-round, nonstop service to Sarasota-Bradenton. However, an often overlooked source of growth has been our legacy carriers electing to fly larger aircraft on existing routes.”
This has not only increased the supply of seats available at SYR, but has also helped make air travel cheaper at SYR. In an earlier study of Department of Transportation (DOT) data, 2018 airfares at SYR were ranked as the second fastest falling in the nation.
Terreri is eager to share his gratitude. “We sincerely thank each and every passenger who chose to include SYR in their travels in 2019, and look forward to serving the Central New York community and beyond in this New Year.”

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
