On Thursday, January 17, Via Air will begin nonstop service from Tucson International Airport (TUS) to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The first arrival is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. bringing Texans to the Sonoran Desert. Departing passengers will head to AUS at 1:05 p.m. with an arrival time of 4:10 p.m. To celebrate the inaugural flight, arriving and departing passengers will be provided goodies and refreshments. Media is invited to help celebrate the flight with post-security access for the departure. Interviews may be done with TAA personnel and passengers. Media members must meet in front of the Via Air ticket counter, which is next to the Southwest Airlines counter on the east end of the terminal by 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
More About the Flight The new flight to Austin is scheduled for 2 hours and 5 minutes, reducing the flight-time by about half of the current shortest connecting flight schedule of 4 hours and 3 minutes.
