2020-21 Balchen/Post Award Announcement

FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF AIRPORT AND ICE CONTROL

At the 63rd Northeast Chapter of American Association of Airport Executives on August 16th 2021 in Burlington, VT; awards were presented to the “Snow Crews” of the airports in the Snow Belt for their dedicated efforts in maintaining their airports in safe and operational status during the 2020 – 2021 winter season. This is the 45thconsecutive year that such awards are presented. All categories of airports – Commercial, General Aviation and Military – compete for these awards.

Applications are submitted by the airport operators on behalf of the local work force in recognition of their efforts in keeping the airports operationally safe at all times. Recommendations for selection may come from the users of airports, airlines, pilots, general aviation, the military and the entire aviation community. In addition, the members of the Awards Selection Committee provide feedback from their own organizations as to the performance of competing airports.

 

The 2020 – 2021 awards were presented to the following airports:

Large Commercial

Winner:

Denver International Airport – Denver, Colorado

Honorable Mention:

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport – Minneapolis, Minnesota  

Philadelphia International Airport – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 

Newark Liberty International Airport – Newark, New Jersey

 

Medium Commercial

Winner:

Colorado Springs Airport – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Honorable Mention:

Westchester County Airport – White Plains, New York

Buffalo Niagara International Airport – Buffalo, New York  

Pittsburgh International Airport – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 

 

Small Commercial

Winner:

Greater Binghamton Airport – Johnson City, New York

Honorable Mention:

Erie International Airport – Erie, Pennsylvania 

   Syracuse Hancock International Airport – Syracuse, New York

 

Large General Aviation

Winner:

Morristown Municipal Airport – Morristown, New Jersey

Honorable Mention:

Laurence G. Hanscom Field – Bedford, Massachusetts

Lancaster Airport – Lancaster, Pennsylvania 

 

Small General Aviation

Winner:

Willow Run Airport – Ypsilanti, Michigan

Honorable Mention:

Southwest Michigan Regional Airport – Benton Harbor, Michigan

 

Military Airport

Winner:

773rd  Civil Engineer Squadron (CES)

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska (PACAF)

 

Honorable Mention: 

319th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES)

Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota (ACC)
