ST. LOUIS – Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) announced the recipients of the 2017 Excellence in Airport Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service Awards on November 7, 2017, during an awards gala during the 2017 Marketing and Communications Conference in St. Louis, MO.  Miami International Airport received the 2017 Peggy G. Hereford Award recipient as the airport with the most overall recognition in the contest categories.

“Communication, marketing, and customer service professionals play a leading role in telling the story of an airport within the community and to the broader aviation system,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “ACI-NA is pleased to recognize achievements of these professionals and their dedication to connecting with their passengers and communities in meaningful ways.”

Since its formation in 1990, the contest recognizes the quality of work, abundance of talent, and creativity within the marketing and communications field of the airport industry. This year, the contest received nearly 350 entries in 19 categories in communication, marketing and customer service.

Miami International Airport was named the recipient of the Peggy G. Hereford award, the contest’s top accolade. The award is regarded throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn for marketing and communications excellence.  The award recognizes overall creativity in communicating the airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences, and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and public relations.

“We are incredibly honored to once again be recognized among all airports in North America as a leader in marketing and communications,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “We take great pride in our engagement with MIA travelers and the local community, so it is deeply gratifying to receive the Peggy G. Hereford Award for the second time because of those efforts.”

About ACI-NA

Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) represents local, regional, and state governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States and Canada. ACI-NA member airports enplane more than 95 percent of the domestic and virtually all the international airline passenger and cargo traffic in North America.  Approximately 380 aviation-related businesses are also members of ACI-NA, providing goods and services to airports.  Collectively, U.S. airports employ more than 1.3 million people and account for $1.2 trillion in economic activity—or seven percent of the total U.S. workforce and eight percent of GDP.  Canadian airports support 405,000 jobs and contribute C$35 billion to Canada’s GDP.
