American Airlines Announces New Service to Halifax

Dec 9, 2022 | News

PHILADELPHIA – American Airlines has announced that it will begin seasonal service between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) beginning in June 2019. The seasonal daily service starts on June 13 and runs through October 2.

The announcement will re-start non-stop flights from Philadelphia to the Canadian Maritime province. US Airways previously operated service to Halifax until American discontinued it in January 2017 in the wake of the airlines’ merger. American plans to use Embraer 175 aircraft on the route, which will be served only by the largest carrier at PHL.

“Halifax is a wonderful city and the Canadian Maritimes are beautiful.  We are very pleased that American is restoring this service and making it easier for travelers in our region to visit there and even more so for travelers in Nova Scotia to come to Philadelphia,” said Airport CEO Chellie Cameron.

The Halifax announcement is the most recent in a year in which American has bolstered its international reach from its gateway at PHL. Earlier this year, American introduced service to Budapest, Prague and Zurich and announced that in 2019 it was adding non-stop flights to Berlin, Bologna, Dubrovnik and Edinburgh. PHL will be the only airport in North America to offer non-stop flights to Bologna and Dubrovnik.

“We are excited that American is not only adding new international destinations from Philadelphia but introducing cities that have never been served from PHL,” said Cameron. “This is great news for the entire Philadelphia region and to our connecting passenger base as well.”
