AURORA of CNY and Syracuse Regional Airport Authority partner for an interactive experience during World Blindness Awareness Month
SYRACUSE, NY — AURORA of CNY and the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority are collaborating to bring the Blind Immersion Experience to the Syracuse Hancock International Airport on Thursday, October 3 at 10:00 am. This event, held in recognition of World Blindness Month, aims to raise awareness and understanding of blindness.
The Blind Immersion Experience is an interactive journey where participants will use blindfolds or sensory goggles to step into the shoes of travelers who are blind or visual impaired. Sighted guides will be on hand to help participants navigate through the airport terminal. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss their experience and ask questions.
“This event aims to break down barriers and broaden understanding of the challenges that our blind and visually impaired friends and neighbors face in the community,” said Kate Weidman, Deputy Executive Director of AURORA of CNY. “The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority is an outstanding partner and we deeply appreciate their efforts in making our local airport a national leader in accessibility.”
During the event, representatives from AURORA of CNY will also showcase the latest in adaptive technology and accessibility solutions that support the needs of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Additionally, individuals who are served by AURORA of CNY will be present to share their personal experiences and insights.
