Lexington, KY—3/24/2022—Blue Grass Airport’s Regional ARFF Training Center will host ARFF 502: Response to Rotorcraft Accidents on May 26-27. In this unique two-day course, only offered once this year, students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the helicopter and learn about responding to helicopter accidents. Other topics that will be covered during this course include aircraft familiarization, landing zone safety, types of accidents, survival factors, occupant injury patterns and safety around helicopters.
Utilizing a helicopter simulator to complete a live fire drill, the student will have a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience with what they have learned. Aircraft on display, provided by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky National Guard, will give participants a close look at the specific features of helicopters. This blend of hands-on training combined with classroom instruction provides the firefighters who attend with a thorough understanding of the topics covered. Expert instructors, Scott May and Brian Wainscott, work to create this environment for their classes to offer the best possible instruction for every student.
In addition to Response to Rotorcraft Accidents, the training center recently released its full schedule of class offerings for 2022, including Basic Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, Basic Structural Approach to ARFF and a variety of recertification options. Topics are subject to change as the class date approaches and online registration is available at bluegrassairport.com/training.
