Oceano, CA – The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Airports is thrilled to announce its first-ever Girls In Aviation Day, a free, community-wide event taking place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Oceano Airport, 561 Air Park Drive, Oceano, CA.
This exciting event will inspire curiosity and showcase the limitless possibilities within the aviation and aerospace industries. All ages—from curious kids to aspiring young adults—are welcome to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with commercial airline representatives, meet local pilots and first responders, explore airplanes and helicopters up close, and take part in engaging, hands-on activities designed for elementary, middle, and high school students.
Additional highlights include food trucks, educational resources, scholarship opportunities, and the chance to meet positive role models who are shaping the future of flight.
“Events like Girls In Aviation Day bring our community together and open doors for young people to explore exciting and meaningful career paths,” said Supervisor Jimmy Paulding. “This event is more than an introduction to aviation—it’s a celebration of the talent, ambition, and creativity we have here in San Luis Obispo County.”
Courtney Johnson, Director of Airports, shared her passion for the event’s mission: “The aviation industry offers incredible opportunities, both globally and right here in our community. Girls In Aviation Day is our way of showing youth that the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the beginning. We want future generations to know they have a place in shaping the future of flight.”
Girls In Aviation Day is part of a global initiative led by Women in Aviation International to introduce young people to the many careers available in aviation and aerospace. The County’s Department of Airports is proud to host this inaugural event at Oceano Airport, fostering a new generation of aviation enthusiasts and professionals.
