SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Airports is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim O’Keeffe as the new Deputy Director of Operations & Maintenance, effective November 23, 2025. O’Keeffe will assume the role as longtime Deputy Director Craig Piper concludes an exceptional 25-year career with the Department.
O’Keeffe emerged as the top candidate, and throughout the recruitment process he demonstrated strong alignment with the Department’s values and long-term vision. His leadership approach emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and respect—qualities that mirror the airport system’s continued commitment to operational excellence and exceptional guest experience.
O’Keeffe showcased a deep understanding of airport operations, safety, and team development. He will begin his new role with a structured transition plan, ensuring continuity of leadership and a smooth handoff of responsibilities as Piper prepares for retirement.

O’Keeffe will oversee the Operations & Maintenance Division for both SLO County Airport (SBP) and Oceano Airport, supporting efforts to strengthen reliability, enhance efficiency, and maintain the high standards of service the community expects. O’Keeffe assumes the position now to ensure a seamless transition as Piper is set to retire in May of 2026.
