DFW AIRPORT, Texas (Aug. 26, 2024) – As part of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s (DFW) ongoing celebration of its 50th anniversary year, the airport will open one of its seven runways this fall for a once-in-a-lifetime 5K run on the airfield.
The DFW 5K on the Runway will take place Saturday, Oct. 5 using runway 13R/31L. The runway, which is 9,300 feet long, will be temporarily transformed into a 5K racecourse. The event will not disrupt normal flight operations, which will continue using the airport’s six other active runways.
“At DFW, our runways are more than just infrastructure, they’re the pathways that connect tens of millions of people globally each year. We’re excited to open a part of our airfield, allowing our community to experience their airport in a truly unique way,” said Maruchy Cantu, DFW’s Executive Vice President Administration, DE&I. “The 5K on the Runway is our special way of showing appreciation to everyone who has played a role in DFW Airport’s success.”
The registration fee is $75, and includes a commemorative T-shirt, medal and professional timing for each runner. Registration is available online now at https://dfwairport5k.com/. Runners/walkers must be at least 18 years old.
This event has limited capacity and is expected to sell out quickly, so runners/walkers are encouraged to register as soon as possible. For safety and security, only those who are registered to participate as a runners/walker will be allowed at the event and there will not be an area for spectators.
In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen operational circumstances, the 5K may be canceled for the safety of all participants.
