Up to 500 planes expected @ GRB during AirVenture
June 3, 2022
(GREEN BAY, WI) It’s never too early to plan ahead for some summer fun! The EAA is gearing up for a big AirVenture this year – and that means it will also be busy at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB). EAA’s AirVenture 2022, which takes place July 25-31, 2022, is the world’s largest fly-in gathering, and one of the world’s largest aviation events.
Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport is the primary supporter of EAA Radio, the all-volunteer group that broadcasts what’s happenings at AirVenture to attendees, as well as around the world via web stream.
Attendance at AirVenture historically averages 500,000 and a significant number of those attendees fly to the event in their own planes. Wittman Field in Oshkosh quickly reaches capacity, so those pilots and attendees look for other places to land and park. Many come to GRB and its Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) Jet Air and Executive Air because of the ease, convenience and lower costs.
Both FBOs offer a wide variety of services for the pilots and attendees. “There is an abundance of available parking, plus the FBOs have fuel and repairs, can arrange for catering, hotel rooms, ground transportation and pretty much take care of whatever might come up during the course of AirVenture,” explained Marty Piette, A.A.E., Director of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
A big advantage for those coming from outside the U.S. is that they can clear U.S. Customs for free at GRB. “With our International Arrivals Terminal on site, they simply clear Customs at the terminal and then park at one of the two Fixed Base Operator ramps,” Piette added. “It’s incredibly convenient.”
“EAA AirVenture provides great international exposure for GRB and Northeast Wisconsin,” says Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “We’re proud to provide ancillary services and visitor support for this major annual event.”
Whether you fly or arrive at AirVenture another way, there is always plenty to see and do that will appeal to a wide range of ages and interests. Among the features of this year’s AirVenture:
- Celebration of the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force
- Watching the One Week Wonder: See an airplane built in a week
- Nine air shows in seven days, including night air shows on July 27 and 30
- The latest aviation innovations, from electric aircraft to urban air mobility will be on display and in the air
- Family-friendly event, with free admission for ages 18 and under, thanks to Boeing
