Fort Smith Regional Airport Introduces New Parking System to Improve Customer Convenience and Efficiency

Feb 10, 2026 | News

FORT SMITH, Ark. (February 10, 2026) – The Fort Smith Regional Airport (FSM), in partnership with its parking operator, Republic Parking, is implementing a new system designed to make the parking experience faster, easier, and more efficient for travelers.

The new system was installed in January and is now fully operational. It simplifies both entry and exit while maintaining on-site assistance for customers who need help.

Upon entering the parking lot, drivers will press a button at the entry machine to receive a parking ticket. Once the ticket is issued, the gate will automatically open to allow entry.

When exiting, parkers will proceed to one of two automated exit lanes. Drivers will scan the barcode on their parking ticket, and the total parking fee will be clearly displayed on the screen. Payment is processed directly at the exit machine, after which the gate will open. Customers will also be prompted to request a printed receipt before completing their transaction.

While the new system does not include a traditional cashier booth, a parking lot attendant will be on duty to assist customers, answer questions, and help ensure a smooth experience.

To avoid scanning issues at exit, signage will be placed at the entry machines reminding customers not to leave their parking tickets displayed in vehicle windows. Prolonged sun exposure can fade the barcode, making it more difficult to scan during exit.

“This new parking system is all about improving ease of use and efficiency for our passengers,” said Andrew Meyer, Fort Smith Regional Airport Director. “By modernizing our parking operations and maintaining on-site assistance, we’re creating a more streamlined and user-friendly experience from arrival to departure.”

Fort Smith Regional Airport encourages travelers to allow a few extra moments to become familiar with the new system during the transition period and thanks the public for their cooperation.
