Sacramento, CA – The Sacramento County Department of Airports (SCDA) is pleased to announce the promotion of Frieden McLean to Deputy Director of Maintenance, effective May 18, 2025. McLean brings more than five years of impactful leadership within the Department and a distinguished career in both public service and the military.

Since joining SCDA in 2019 as the inaugural Manager of the Project Portfolio Office (PPO), McLean has led the Department’s largest capital improvement efforts with strategic vision and operational precision. Under his leadership, the PPO has overseen the planning and coordination of SCDA’s ambitious $1.4 billion SMForward Capital Program, one of the most significant public infrastructure initiatives in the region.

“Frieden has demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead complex projects with strategic vision and collaboration,” said Chris Wimsatt, Assistant Director of Airports. “His combination of technical knowledge, leadership qualities, and commitment to mission makes him an outstanding fit for this critical role.”

In addition to his achievements at SCDA, McLean serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves, where he has held leadership positions in Maintenance, Operational Support, and Logistics. He previously served for 13 years as a C-17 pilot on active duty, reinforcing his deep understanding of aviation operations and systems.

As Deputy Director of Maintenance, McLean will oversee Facilities Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, Parks Maintenance, Airfield Maintenance, and Custodial & Building Services. He will also coordinate with the Department of General Services to support seamless operational performance across the airport system.
