(Sudbury, ON) – Greater Sudbury Airport CEO, Todd Tripp, and the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation are proud to announce a key investment of over $2 million in acquiring new airfield equipment that will significantly enhance the overall operations of the Greater Sudbury Airport.

The Eagle‐CLAAS Xerion 5000 is a new multi‐purpose, multi‐season, extremely versatile tractor designed to improve an airport’s ability to manage snow and ice in the winter, and road and turf maintenance in the spring, summer and fall. The purchase of the Eagle‐Claas includes a Snogo Blower and Metal Pless Maxx Pro Plow attachments. Also, an ATI Snow Mauler integrated with a MB Broom and MB Plow, offer a highly innovative solution for managing the high lifecycle costs of operating airfield equipment.

“We are very excited about this important investment in our operations. The Greater Sudbury Airport is a vital link for the City of Greater Sudbury and surrounding region. In addition to enabling our crews to work more efficiently, the purchase of this state‐of‐the‐art equipment aligns perfectly with our core values of Safety, Quality, Accountability, the Environment, and Sustainability,” said Todd Tripp, Chief Executive Officer, Greater Sudbury Airport.

Using the new equipment for the first snow removal operation of the season, the Greater Sudbury Airport experienced a 60‐70% reduction in operator’s time. Operating in extreme weather conditions of Northern Ontario, the Greater Sudbury Airport will continue to measure the efficiencies during the operating season to report what it anticipates as a large return on investment.

“Sudbury’s extensive research and investment in next generation equipment technology clearly demonstrates industry leadership in safe and efficient operations’ strategies” said Steve McKeown, Team Eagle’s CEO. “As the busiest airport in northeastern Ontario, their commitment to innovation and adoption of advanced technologies will continue to enhance and support their already successful growth” he added.
