Horton Automatics new EWD system greatly enhances security at the exit from the sterile zone to the unsecured area of your airport, reducing the need to man the exit.
Corpus Christi, TX July 2019 – The Horton Early Warning Detection system was recently installed at the McGhee Tyson Airport, Knoxville, TN. Horton installed the 9331 1-Way Security Door at McGhee Tyson between the gate area and baggage claim. This exit was unmanned, but increased security warranted an enhancement to the Horton Revolving Door. Even though the door affectively detected, prevented and contained any breach attempts, individuals would sometimes walk backwards past the “Do Not Enter” signs and approach the door from the non-secure side. With the addition of the EWD, these violations are thwarted immediately.
Scenario: Persons outside the secure zone at the airports step toward the secure exit. Early in the approach to the Revolving Door, the EWD Time-of-Flight sensors, in conjunction with other sensors in the EWD system, accurately determine that the pedestrian is traveling the wrong direction. Reminders, warnings and alerts are then initiated by the EWD. Flashing lights first remind them to turn around. If they continue an automated voice enunciates, “Wrong way! Please exit.” If they continue, the door locks down and TSA/Security are notified electronically of the near breach. The door remains locked and does not allow passage until security is assured and operation is restored.
The EWD offers an added layer of security to similar installations of the Horton or other brands of 1-Way Airport Revolving Door in airports around the country. The EWD is also applicable to other airport secure exit configurations, such as the Horton Secure Exit Lane. The EWD at a very low cost can be added to exit lanes with other types of doors or no doors at all, to add visual, audible and notification warnings to existing exit lane technologies of all types. The 4” tube extending across the corridor provides an unobtrusive overhead design.
