FMAA looks to community for replacement suggestions
Fort McMurray, AB – The iconic Canadian Forces Snowbird (CT-114 Tutor aircraft) has been a staple at the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM), since the new terminal opened to the public in 2014. A Snowbird Airshow coincided with the celebration of the new building, as part of the grand opening.
Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s (FMAA) former leadership team selected the aircraft to honour members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Comprised of CAF members and National Defence Public Service employees, Snowbirds represent all three elements: Army, Navy and Air Force.
“Northern Alberta’s climate has taken a toll on the aircraft,” says Cuyler Green, Vice President of Operations & Infrastructure, FMAA. “To ensure the safety of our passengers and employees, we have taken the display down. We are currently working to find an appropriate organization to donate the aircraft to.”
The big question remains: what will take its place? Denean Robinson, President and CEO, FMAA wants to hear from Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo community members to support the decision-making process. “We’re asking for input and suggestions from the folks who know our region best – our residents.”
The item selected to replace the Snowbird aircraft must:
A.) Be representative of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region.
B.) Align with YMM’s values: Safety, Sustainability, Creativity, People and Leadership.
