New destinations, a record fall break and specialty flights drove growth
INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 10, 2026) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) wrapped up 2025 with another year of record‑setting passenger traffic, welcoming more than 10.6 million passengers in all through the IND terminal, nearly 100,000 passengers more than in 2024. The new record was made up of growth across both business and leisure travel, driven by a strong list of new nonstop destinations – including domestic, international and transatlantic destinations – along with expanded flight options and specialty flights to support major events.
Key time periods and days that drove high passenger traffic also helped set the Indy airport up for another record-breaking year, such as Fall Break 2025, which delivered the busiest day (Oct. 9), the busiest month and the first million-passenger month (October) – all in IND history.
“This was a year of multiple firsts and record-breaking milestones, thanks to our exceptional staff that remained focused on providing an excellent customer experience — even through the longest government shutdown in U.S. history,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “Their commitment kept Hoosier travelers moving without missing a beat. And through it all, we remained an eight-time J.D. Power award winner for delivering the highest level of customer service.”
New Nonstops and Unserved Destinations
The Indy airport’s airline partners announced or launched 22 new flights in 2025, including eight new nonstop destinations that were previously unserved out of Central Indiana. In all, passengers had access to 52 nonstop destinations out of Indy by the end of 2025.
New nonstops to key destinations that launched or were announced in 2025 included Nashville (BNA) and Chicago Midway (MDW) on Southwest Airlines, Portland (PDX), the transatlantic flight to Dublin (DUB) on Aer Lingus and the addition of an international Caribbean flight to Punta Cana (PUJ) on American Airlines.
Dublin, Punta Cana and Portland represented destinations that had not previously been served nonstop from Indy.
Specialty Flights
The Indy airport’s airline partners also announced flights to 13 special events, generating additional passenger traffic. These flights flew special schedules to New Orleans, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Eugene (OR).
In all, multiple major events – like Mardi Gras, the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, Indy 500, various Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University season games, and the historic IU Rose Bowl game – helped drive additional passenger traffic through the Indy airport in 2025.
“We did more than just add flights — we opened doors to places Hoosiers couldn’t reach nonstop before,” said Marsha Wurster, IAA senior director of commercial. “Whether it was a quick hop to Nashville or a bucket‑list trip to Dublin, Indy travelers have more nonstop options than ever. And when big moments came along — like IU’s amazing championship run — our airline partners came through with specialty flights so fans could be there as Hoosier history was created.”
Looking ahead to 2026
As the Indy airport looks ahead to the first half of 2026, it will add three more nonstop destinations – increasing its total nonstops to a new record of 55.
In March, Hoosier spring break travelers will have nonstop access to Cabo San Lucas (SJD) via Southwest Airlines. Then in April, Aer Lingus will begin operating its additional nonstop flight out of Indy to Dublin (DUB), growing its weekly service from four to five days per week.
In May, Allegiant Air will begin its seasonal nonstop service out of Indy to Burbank. And starting in June, Southwest will begin its seasonal nonstop service to San Juan (SJU) through August.
“IND’s growth is not about volume, it’s about value to Central Indiana, the state and the region,” said Wurster. “Every new nonstop we add – especially to destinations we’ve never served or that have long been underserved – strengthens Indianapolis’ economic standing and opportunities. Our team, our airline partners, and our community leaders continue to work together to make IND one of the most connected and convenient airports in the country.”
