Aug 7, 2024 | News

Lewiston, ID – The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport Authority announces that construction for the first phase of the runway reconstruction project will begin Monday, March 23th. This is the first of six phases of a three month reconstruction project.

This $7 million project includes a new lighting system and navigational aids. The existing runway is 34 years old and provides a valuable service to the Airport, allowing for segregation of traffic which improves Airport Safety and serves as a backup facility to the primary Runway (8-26).

“The runway reconstruction project underscores our commitment to providing the highest quality of services for our general and corporate aviation customers” said Mike Isaacs, Airport Director.

The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport Authority has contracted with TO Engineering to design and oversee the project. Knife River Construction has been awarded the construction project, which is projected to last until midJune.

This reconstruction project will offer many safety enhancements, including:

o Replacing runway base, drainage asphalt eliminating large cracks, holes and foreign object debris

o Re-aligning taxiway access to the runway and installing new runway and taxiway lighting

o Enhance runway safety areas

Through all of the phases, the airport operations will continue to be open. Pilots will always have access to the primary runway and aprons.

The project is funded through a combination of 97.5% federal aviation administration entitlement and a discretionary Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant with a 2.5% local match.
