May 2025: Colorado Springs Airport Monthly Traffic Report

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – May’s passenger traffic at Colorado Springs Airport (COS) indicates a strong summer after the lower-than-average numbers reported in recent months, with a total 220,982 passengers—a 1.9 percent increase from May 2024. The Airport remains committed to COS’ long-term growth through its ongoing efforts to promote and attract air service. Seat availability has increased by 5.7 percent year-over-year, setting the stage for a robust 2025 as travel demand is expected to rise through the summer. The average load factor for the month stood at 85.6 percent, a 2.3% decrease from May 2024.
Notable airport updates: 
  • Southwest Airlines started seasonal international service to Cancun (CUN) June 7, 2025 – August 2, 2025, and will return in the fall for flights on November 22 and 29, December 20 and 27, and January 3, 2026. Tickets are on sale now.
  • The new Federal Inspection Station (FIS) is now open for international flights.
  • Southwest Airlines is set to begin year-round service to San Diego (SAN) on October 2, 2025. Tickets are on sale now.
  • American Airlines started daily nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) on June 5, 2025.
  • On May 9, the Airport Ambassador Program celebrated its 20-year anniversary. Our 50+ total volunteers serve both as passenger concierges as well as spread joy with our PAWS 4 COS therapy dog program. Each plays an important role in providing visitors a positive customer experience.
Nonstop Route Updates:  
  • Allegiant Air: Phoenix/Mesa (AZA), Santa Ana/Orange County (SNA), and St. Petersburg/Tampa (PIE) 
  • Twice weekly service to all three destinations
  • Phoenix/Mesa (AZA) seasonal service was scheduled through May and returns in October
  • American Airlines: Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) 
  • Six daily flights with easy connecting service across the U.S. and worldwide
  • Daily service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) began on June 5, 2025
  • Delta Air Lines: Atlanta (ATL), Salt Lake City (SLC), and Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP)
  • Twice daily service to Atlanta (ATL), except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Daily service to Salt Lake City (SLC), with an additional flight starting in July 2025
  • Seasonal service to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) resumed on June 8, 2025
  • Southwest Airlines: Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Chicago (MDW), Dallas (DAL), Denver (DEN), Houston (HOU), Las Vegas (LAS), Phoenix (PHX), San Diego (SAN), San Antonio (SAT), and Cancun, Mexico (CUN) 
  • Weekly seasonal service to Cancun, Mexico (CUN) began June 7, 2025
  • Five times per week service to San Diego (SAN), will start on October 2, 2025
  • Daily service to Baltimore/Washington (BWI) will transition to daily service except Saturday’s October 1-30, and peak days during the holidays; November 22, 25, 26, 29, 30, and December 1, 19-23, 26-30
  • Seasonal service San Antonio (SAT) on peak days during the holidays to include November 22, 25, 26, 29, 30; December 1, 19-23, 26-30, January 2-4, 2026
  • Daily service to Denver (DEN) with easy connections coast-to-coast
  • United Airlines: Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), and Chicago (ORD) 
  • Three daily destinations with easy connections coast-to-coast and worldwide
  • 11 daily flights to Denver (DEN)
