MIA OPENS ADDITIONAL CHECKPOINT, RECEIVES MORE TSA STAFFING FOR SUMMER TRAVEL

May 9, 2024 | News

(MIAMI, June 1, 2016) – On the heels of a successful Memorial Day weekend, Miami International Airport received the necessary staffing from the Transportation Security Administration on May 31 to open its Concourse D Checkpoint 4 during the airport’s highest peak hours. Checkpoint 4, which provides access to concourses D and E primarily for passengers flying hub carrier American Airlines, is now open daily from 8 – 10 a.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.

Preparations before Memorial Day, such as deployment of additional TSA officers and Concourse D Checkpoint 2 being dedicated exclusively to TSA Pre✓® passengers, made for a smooth start to the summer travel season at MIA. After a team of MIA officials traveled to Washington, D.C. in May for meetings with TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger and other high-ranking federal officials, the TSA committed to adding more than 60 screening officers at MIA this summer.

“I’m glad to see that our visit to Washington in May and our discussions since then with the TSA are paying big dividends for our passengers,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “Wait times over the Memorial Day weekend were nothing near the long lines we saw during Spring Break, and we look forward to keeping wait times down as additional TSA officers continue being deployed to MIA this summer. I want to thank Administrator Neffenger and our federal partners for hearing and addressing our concerns.”
