MKE PASSENGER TRAFFIC RISES FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE MONTH

Jul 21, 2023 | News

Year-to-date passenger counts are up nearly three percent

MILWAUKEE (September 1, 2016) – More passengers are using Mitchell Airport for their summer travel this year.  July passengers totaled 614,755, an increase of 0.73% from the 610,271 total that was recorded in July of 2015.  Passenger traffic increases have been recorded in six out of the first seven months of 2016.  July marks the third consecutive month of growth.

“July is one of the busiest travel months of the year, and I’m pleased we continue to add passengers at our hometown airport of MKE,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “We have a great airport, and even more travelers are discovering that choosing MKE is quick and convenient – and that flying from here helps support more flights to and from our community.”

Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 2.8% from the same period last year.  New routes from Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines are helping to boost the passenger counts in 2016.  Frontier will launch a new nonstop flight to Phoenix in December, joining Southwest and American Airlines on the route.

Mitchell Airport offers nonstop flights to 37 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.  MKE is also served by Air Canada, Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, OneJet, Southwest and United.  The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at www.mitchellairport.com.

General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
