COLUMBUS, Ohio – In 2019, more people flew through John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) and the Rickenbacker Passenger Terminal (LCK) than in any previous year, breaking records for both airports with a combined 8.9 million passengers and a year-over-year increase of nearly six percent.
“This marks the sixth consecutive year of passenger growth for CMH and LCK,” said Joe Nardone, President & CEO, Columbus Regional Airport Authority. “In the last two years, we experienced a 14 percent upsurge in passenger traffic equaling 1.1 million people.”
Factors driving these increases in passenger traffic over the last two years include:
- Columbus Region growth
- Two new airlines serving Columbus – Spirit and Alaska
- New nonstop service to markets previously accessed only via connecting flights, such as Charleston, SC; Houston-Hobby, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Sarasota and Seattle
- More flights, and/or larger aircraft with more seats available for booking on long-standing, high-demand routes such as Chicago, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Los Angeles and Tampa
“We appreciate our loyal passenger base, our supportive public and private partnerships, and all that our airlines are doing to meet the growing demand for nonstop flights from Ohio’s capital city,” said Nardone.
Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit and United serve central Ohio travelers from Columbus with nearly 160 peak day departures to 47 destinations. Visit FlyColumbus.com to see everywhere you can fly nonstop from CMH and LCK.
