New Airport Operations Managers Announced at Reagan National, Dulles International

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced new leadership of its Airport Operations departments located at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Both selected candidates bring a wealth of training and experience to the Airports Authority team. As a system, the airports served more than 47 million passengers in 2018.

At Reagan National, Mike McElwee was promoted from Operations Duty Manager to Manager of Airport Operations. Prior to joining the Airports Authority, he held leadership positions with the Defense Intelligence Agency and U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force, McElwee served as Chief FB-111 Flight Instructor, B-52 Aircraft Commander and in other U.S. Air Force staff positions.

McElwee graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs. He earned a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University. He holds FAA pilot certifications in Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and other multi-engine aircraft.

At Dulles International, Manager of Airport Operations Tom Stastny A.A.E. has worked in operations departments in commercial airports since 1993. He began his airport career in the Department of Aviation for the City of Chicago, managing airfield and communications center operations at Chicago Midway International Airport and Meigs Field. This was followed by responsibilities as Deputy Airport Director at Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport managing maintenance, public safety and airport operations.

Stastny is accredited by the American Association of Airport Executives and has a degree in Aviation Management and Flight from Southern Illinois University. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from DePaul University and holds a commercial pilot instrument rating.
