New Flights Takeoff in Time for Holiday Travel

Three new destinations from Allegiant and Spirit provide even more options

LOUISVILLE, KY (November 18, 2021) – Even more nonstop destinations are now available at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) as two airlines begin service to three new destinations, just in time for holiday travel. Spirit Airlines launched nonstop service to Fort Myers (RSW) beginning Wednesday, November 17, followed by nonstop service to Tampa (TPA) on Thursday, November 18. Allegiant Air then rounds out the week with new nonstop service to Austin (AUS) on Thursday, November 18 as well.

“These three new flights continue to reflect the strength of the market and our persistent efforts to continue growing air service at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “We appreciate the continued investment from both Allegiant and Spirit as they expand their low-fare offerings and give regional travelers even more reasons to choose SDF.”

As holiday travel is quickly approaching, SDF continues to build on its recovery momentum since welcoming Breeze and Spirit to Louisville in May, capped with a record high 36 nonstop destinations now available from Louisville. Spirit’s service to Fort Myers is offered four times weekly and service to Tampa is offered three times weekly. Flights to Austin are available twice weekly from Allegiant on Thursdays and Sundays.

These new flights cap off a year in which SDF has celebrated numerous new routes and several single day traffic records – besting numbers from 2019, which was celebrated as the airport’s best year to date. Louisville continues to see more than 90% of pre-pandemic capacity going into the winter months, and now offers more low fare flights and warm-weather destinations than ever.

“The growth we continue to experience from Allegiant and Spirit – both largely driven by leisure travelers – is very positive news for us,” added Mann. “This is a great way to close out the year and look towards setting new records in 2022.”
