MKE’s newest airline offers six nonstop destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean

MILWAUKEE (December 23, 2016) – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has announced that the newest airline at MKE, Norwegian Air, in conjunction with Funjet Vacations and Apple Vacations, launched its winter flights to Mexico and the Caribbean this morning.  Funjet Vacations is a brand of The Mark Travel Corporation, based in Milwaukee.

Passengers on today’s inaugural flight to Cancun enjoyed a celebration in the gate area featuring sunshine-themed cookies provided by Mitchell Airport (MKE).

“Subzero temperatures hit Milwaukee early this winter, but warm weather destinations are just a short flight away for travelers who begin their trip at MKE,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “Whether it’s a quick getaway or an extended vacation, these six nonstops to Mexico and the Caribbean give travelers plenty of warm vacation options this winter.”

Norwegian’s 2016-2017 winter schedule includes nonstops from MKE to Mexico (Cancun, Cozumel, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, and Puerto Vallarta), the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana), and Jamaica (Montego Bay).  All flights can be booked at funjet.com or applevacations.com.

Mitchell Airport offers nonstop flights to 38 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.  MKE is also served by Alaska, Air Canada, American, Delta, OneJet, Southwest, United and Volaris.  The nonstop cities map can be found at www.mitchellairport.com.

General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
