Oceano, CA – The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Airports is pleased to announce “Cleared for Cheer,” a festive holiday celebration taking place Saturday, December 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oceano Airport (L52). The family-friendly event will feature a snow play hill, drone show, children’s crafts, a holiday makers market showcasing local artisans, live entertainment, and onsite food trucks.
The holiday event is part of the Department of Airports’ ongoing commitment to community engagement and increasing public connection with Oceano Airport — a unique aviation asset located in the heart of the California coastline.
While entry to the event is free, guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item. Donations will benefit Lucia Mar Unified School District’s Families in Transition program and the Salvation Army, helping support local families throughout the holiday season.
Supervisor Jimmy Paulding, whose district includes Oceano, said he is excited to see the airport bring the community together. “Oceano Airport is one of our county’s most special public spaces — a gateway for pilots, a gathering place for families, and a cornerstone of the Oceano community,” said Supervisor Paulding. “Cleared for Cheer is about bringing our residents together to celebrate the season, support local small businesses, and highlight how this airport continues to serve and uplift the community it belongs to.”
The event is open to all ages. Food vendors and local makers will offer holiday treats and handmade goods, while the airport’s open space will be transformed into a winter celebration.
Courtney Johnson, Director of Airports, shared that this event is part of a larger effort to make the county’s airports accessible, welcoming, and community focused. “Airports are more than places to catch a flight — they are public spaces that connect people,” said Johnson. “We are proud to open the gates at Oceano Airport for a joyful and family-friendly celebration. We invite residents from across the county to join us, experience this beautiful airport up close, and celebrate the season together.”
Parking and entry are free, and guests are encouraged to dress warmly for evening festivities.
