Dec 3, 2020 | News

Mesa, Arizona — Commercial air travel is officially back at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport)! In June, 151,219 passengers traveled through the Airport, the highest June passenger total in the history of the Airport. June 2021 marked the first year-over-year commercial passenger growth since the pandemic started in March 2020.

“Families are making up for lost travel and they have come to know the convenience and affordability of Gateway Airport,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles, Chairman of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. “June is the kickoff to the summer travel season, and we are encouraged and hopeful that this trend will continue.”

This fall, Gateway Airport will be served by six domestic and international airlines – Allegiant, Avelo, WestJet, Swoop, Sun Country, and Flair – offering nonstop service to over 50 destinations. The Airport, located in the Phoenix East Valley, is strategically located within a 30-minute drive of Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, and other popular Valley destinations. Gateway Airport is known for its Just Plane Easy experience, exceptional value, and unparalleled customer service.

Airport Director J. Brian O’Neill A.A.E. added, “We are pleased to see the steady return of our valued customers. I know many of them are excited to be taking trips long delayed by the pandemic. Gateway Airport, our airlines, and airport partners have worked hard to create a safe, convenient, and affordable environment and a positive travel experience.”
