Inspired by the drawings of renowned artists Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Daumier and Van Gogh, Dennis Carrieās paintings use many layers of paint to render his subjects with the greatest possible honesty and are the result of careful observation and thought. An exhibit of his work is on display in the John Wayne Airport Community Focus Space from January 14 ā February 14, 2019.

āTravelers at John Wayne Airport are sure to enjoy Mr. Carrieās still life paintings of quiet, meditative subjects and portraits containing historical figures of extraordinary character,ā said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. āNext time you are traveling through, take a moment to view and admire his exhibit throughout the Airport.ā
Carrieās style contains an unquantifiable element in the painting process that reinforces the repetitive layering of paint in an attempt to reach an image that can never fully be realized, but only approximated. Requiring four to six months to complete, each of his paintings strive for depth of expression that goes beyond a mere physical description to help provide the viewer appreciation for what is present within and around us.
His work has been shown in numerous juried shows throughout Southern California and across the nation including the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and has been accepted on multiple occasions in the University of North Carolina, Asheville Annual Drawing Discourse and Irvine Fine Arts Center All Media Show.
Carrieās paintings may be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4. To learn more about Dennis Carrie, visit his website at www.denniscarrie.com.
Upcoming Community Focus Space Program includes photographer Beverly Brown (February 15 ā March 19) and painter Cunningham/Haight (March 20 ā April 18).
