Inspired by the drawings of renowned artists Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Daumier and Van Gogh, Dennis Carrie’s paintings use many layers of paint to render his subjects with the greatest possible honesty and are the result of careful observation and thought. An exhibit of his work is on display in the John Wayne Airport Community Focus Space from January 14 – February 14, 2019.

“Travelers at John Wayne Airport are sure to enjoy Mr. Carrie’s still life paintings of quiet, meditative subjects and portraits containing historical figures of extraordinary character,” said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “Next time you are traveling through, take a moment to view and admire his exhibit throughout the Airport.”

Carrie’s style contains an unquantifiable element in the painting process that reinforces the repetitive layering of paint in an attempt to reach an image that can never fully be realized, but only approximated. Requiring four to six months to complete, each of his paintings strive for depth of expression that goes beyond a mere physical description to help provide the viewer appreciation for what is present within and around us.

His work has been shown in numerous juried shows throughout Southern California and across the nation including the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and has been accepted on multiple occasions in the University of North Carolina, Asheville Annual Drawing Discourse and Irvine Fine Arts Center All Media Show.

Carrie’s paintings may be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4. To learn more about Dennis Carrie, visit his website at www.denniscarrie.com.
