Robert Chicas joins HNTB’s national aviation architecture practice

Renowned architect brings three decades of national and international aviation architecture experience

LOS ANGELES (May 2, 2023) – Robert Chicas, AIA, NCARB, LEED® AP, has joined HNTB’s national architecture practice as vice president, principal project director. Based in New York, he will be responsible for leading major aviation architecture projects across the country.

“Robert is a talented aviation architect who builds strong collaborative client relationships and effectively manages multidisciplinary teams,” said David Lopez Tome, AIA, ARB, COAM, HNTB national architecture practice leader and vice president. “He understands the importance and significant investment airport redevelopment programs represent and views them from the clients’ perspective to ensure the outcome supports their vision and objectives.”

Chicas’ extensive architectural experience encompasses national and international aviation planning and design architecture. He specializes in high-profile, large-scale airport modernization projects and is recognized throughout the industry for his ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through the delivery of complex and innovative projects. His noteworthy projects include the new Indianapolis International Airport, the new Salt Lake City International Airport Redevelopment Program, the George Bush Intercontinental Airport Automated People Mover Expansion in Houston, LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal B, and Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, among others.

Chicas joins HNTB after serving as the firmwide director of aviation and transportation at another leading architecture firm.

Chicas is a registered architect in New York and New Jersey and NCARB-certified. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pratt Institute School of Architecture in New York. Throughout his career, Chicas continues to be dedicated to mentoring young architecture professionals to help them achieve their career goals.

HNTB’s many signature aviation architecture projects include design lead for the west concourse expansion at Denver International Airport; design lead for the Des Moines International Airport new terminal; principal A/E for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport; architect of record for the new Terminal C at Orlando International Airport; and lead architectural designer for the Automated People Mover stations and maintenance facility at Los Angeles International Airport.
