Gate A13 is part of the Terminal A Modernization Program at SMF

Sacramento, CA – Terminal A at the Sacramento International Airport is now home to a brand new gate.

Gate A13 was available for use on March 18 and is part of the Terminal A Modernization Program initiated by the Sacramento County Department of Airports in 2017, which included replacing all 12 passenger boarding bridges (PBBs) in the terminal.

By integrating the PBB replacement project into the Modernization Program, the Department was able to add an additional passenger boarding gate into the existing concourse without constructing new terminal infrastructure, saving $25 million to $40 million. The cost of the interior and exterior work to create Gate A13 was approximately $1.3 million, and the expected service life is approximately 20 years.

“The success of this project was due in large part to the amazing team we have here at SMF,” said Sacramento County Director of Airports Cindy Nichol. “They worked nights and weekends to make this happen, so now we have a brand new gate to serve our airlines and passengers.”

Overall, the total cost for 13 new PBBs is approximately $12.5 million. The project experienced a nearly one year delay at the start, but once the new PBBs arrived on site the installation process took approximately 18 months to complete as originally projected.
