Low-cost carrier’s Lima-Miami service will grow to daily flights in July

Peruvian low-cost carrier SKY Airline Peru launched its first service outside of South America this week when its inaugural Lima-Miami flight landed at Miami International Airport on June 7. MIA and airline officials celebrated the U.S. expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included SKY CEO José Ignacio Dougnac, Miami-Dade County Chief Operations Officer Jimmy Morales, and MIA Director and CEO Ralph Cutié.

We are excited to share the great news that SKY Airline Peru has chosen Miami-Dade County as their first U.S. destination, offering a new opportunity for our growing and dynamic Peruvian population to travel back and forth connecting with family and business opportunities. Miami-Dade continues to be the gateway to the Americas and this new connection with Peru will help us expand the cultural and economic exchange between our countries.

The airline is scheduled to increase its Lima-Miami service from four to six weekly flights on July 4 and then to daily service on August 1. The new flights will utilize Airbus A320neo aircraft with an all-economy 186-seat configuration.

Today we successfully inaugurated our first flight from Miami to Lima, which marks a significant milestone in our international expansion plan and will allow us to connect mainly the United States with Peru, Chile, and other countries we fly to, at completely affordable prices and in the most modern fleet of the continent.

José Ignacio Dougnac, SKY CEO

Sky Airline Peru is a subsidiary of Chile-based SKY Airline, which was named Best South American Low-Cost Airline by SKYTRAX in 2018 and 2019. SKY Airline Peru joins American Airlines and LATAM Airlines in serving the Lima-Miami route. Nearly 700,000 passengers traveled between MIA and Peru in 2019, making it the airport’s 11th– busiest international market pre-pandemic.

Sky Peru’s expansion is the latest example of how international travel at MIA is making a strong rebound to pre-pandemic levels. We look forward to welcoming more travelers from Lima and to seeing Sky Peru have continued success with their first U.S. route.

Ralph Cutié, MIA Director and CEO
