David Ulain and his Board from the Division of Aeronautics at the Colorado Department of Transportation were presented with the Sustainability Award during the Colorado Aeronautical Board meetings and the State & Local Funding Discretionary Aviation Grant Hearings on January 29, 2019. The Sustainability Award was presented by Asphalt Systems, Inc. (ASI), and recognizes the Division for over two decades of funding allocations directed toward preserving and protecting the state’s airfield pavements.
Dozens of the state’s airports have elected to use ASI’s GSB-88 pavement preservation material, the only pavement preservation material in the United States to have undergone a lifecycle assessment (LCA) and been GreenCircle Certified as environmentally friendly. The airports and their engineers have not done this through endorsement or insistence from the state, but from availability, education, and assistance from ASI. The result: Colorado has substantially reduced airfield pavement reconstruction costs and its carbon footprint.
