Flagship carrier begins flights to D.C. region in April 2024

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced today that Swiss International Air Lines will begin new nonstop service between Zurich (ZRH) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on April 1, 2024. Flights will operate daily during the summer and 5x/week in the winter. Passengers on this new route will travel aboard an Airbus 330-300 aircraft featuring first, business and economy class cabins.

“We are excited to welcome Swiss International Air Lines to Dulles International Airport. With the launch of their new route to Zurich, Switzerland, travelers will enjoy efficient non-stop service and the great customer experience for which the airline is known,” said Chryssa Westerlund, executive vice president and chief revenue officer of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Swiss Air’s new route to Washington, D.C., will become the airline’s sixth U.S. gateway for the carrier. For travelers to Zurich, they can also take advantage of Swiss’ SWISS Air Rail service which allows passengers to take any SBB train at no extra charge from the Zurich Airport to Basel or Lugano railway stations.

“This long-awaited connection between Washington and Zurich by Switzerland’s flag carrier further enhances our footprint in the U.S. Capital as we connect this growing gateway to all five Lufthansa Group hubs, and subsequently to hundreds of destinations around the world,” said Dirk Janzen, vice president passenger sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group Airlines.

“Lufthansa Group customers in the region will enjoy SWISS’s unique premium service and an exceptional hub at Zurich, boasting new lounges and streamlined connectivity to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The Lufthansa Group carriers have served Washington Dulles for over 30 years and with the commencement SWISS’s year-round flights will offer flights from the capital’s main gateway to Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and now Zurich. Further enhancement of its operation is set for the peak summer months of 2024 with the arrival Lufthansa’s A380 to Dulles Airport, a first for the carrier,” added Janzen.

The schedule for the new service, effective April 1, 2024, is as follows:
