Salt Lake City, UT– A new queue management system installed at the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) takes the guess work out of how long it will take to go through the security screening lines. The new system uses cameras and Bluetooth technology to track wait times—real time—in security screening lines, which are then posted to the SLC Airport monitors and well as on www.slcairport.com

Five, 49 inch monitors are located at the entrance to the checkpoints in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The technology detects and tracks passengers anonymously as they enter the security screening line and continue through the line to the screening exit.

The new technology not only assists passengers, but also increases the accuracy of passenger flow and wait-time data for the SLC Airport and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) when managing busy screening times. SLC has been experiencing record passenger numbers and has experienced 64 months of continual passenger growth.

“We are continually looking at ways to provide a better experience for our passengers,” said Bill Wyatt, executive director for the Salt Lake City Dept. of Airports (SLCDA). “Providing a queue management system will not only help travelers plan their time before coming to the airport, but also alleviate anxiety by knowing they will make it to their gate on time.”

The SLC Airport encourages passengers flying domestically to arrive two hours prior to the flight boarding time and three hours for those taking international nonstop flights.
