AUSTIN, Texas – Areas, one of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s (AUS) concessionaires, has partnered with nonprofit organization Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers (HOME) to honor the Austin musicians who defined our city’s sound. HOME helps aging Central Texas musicians remain safely and stably housed by providing ongoing housing assistance, emergency financial support and individualized case management for musicians who have spent their lives contributing to the culture and music that make Austin unique. Through partnerships with the music community, healthcare and social-service organizations, businesses and individual supporters, HOME helps musicians navigate housing instability, healthcare needs, benefits, transportation and other challenges associated with aging and limited or unpredictable income.
HOMEcoming is a month-long, citywide campaign in November in which Austin music venues, artists and fans come together to support HOME. Participating venues all support HOME differently, from contributions tied to ticket sales to specialty cocktails and direct gifts. HOME has served and supported more than 350 musicians since its founding, and is excited to give the city a way to show up for them through the venues the city loves.
In celebration of HOMEcoming’s kickoff, Areas is hosting an event at the AUS Asleep at the Wheel stage that will feature live performances by musician Ephraim Owens and brief remarks from Paige Ellis, Councilmember representing Austin’s District 8; Sam Haynes, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s Deputy Chief – Strategy and Stakeholder Relations; Terry Mahlum, Area’s Austin-based Regional Vice President of Operations; Steve Wertheimer, Owner of Continental Club & C-Boys Heart and Soul music venues; Eve Monsees with Antone’s Records and Vice President of HOME; and Hanna Cofer, Executive Director of HOME.
The alignment of HOME’s mission, AUS’s tradition of activating live music, and Area’s commitment to supporting the local creative community makes this a meaningful celebration of Austin’s music legacy and community spirit.
